Hysteresis
The global climate process is a system with hysteresis. This means that the output of the system cannot be determined from the input to the system because there is a lag between the input coming into the system and the eventual output of the system.
One consequence of this is with regard to natural systems which cannot be accurately forecasted simply from understanding the changes that taking place.
