Energy consumption in 2001 was higher than in any other year over the last thirty years. Overall energy consumption for energy use in the UK has increased by 13 per cent since 1970 and by 11 percent since 1990.
The total energy consumed in the UK in 2007 was approximately the equivalent of 164.6 million tonnes of oil. Compared to 1990, this was an increase of nearly 12% compared to 1990.
Approximate consumed energy figures for 2001(with the 1990 figures in brackets) were:
Transport - 40% (29%)
Domestic - 30% (28%)
Industry - 20% (26%)
Services and agriculture - 13% (13%)
