Bioenergy
Bioenergy simply refers to the energy held with biomass material. Bioenergy is an energy source for heat, power and transport and will be an important factor in reducing UK carbon dioxide emissions.
Biomass heating and wood burning systems are available There are different ways of extracting and using this energy. The simplest way is to burn biomass.
The production of bioenergy in the UK is set to increase as a source of low carbon energy for heat, power, and transport. Biomass heating and wood burning systems are available for home and commercial use.
To make the most of energy from the biomass we need to produce the required fuel in a sustainable manner. The land used to produce this biomass material is likely to increase.
The UK is investing in bioenergy and the BBSRC Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (BBSR) was launched in January 2009 with the aim of replacing petrol with fuel derived from plant material.
